Goal Groups - Our Grade 7, 8 and 9 Students are Focusing on SMART Goals

Throughout this year, Grade 7, 8 and 9 students will be placed in Goal Groups and will continue developing SMART Goals.
What are Goal Groups?
On Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings, students in grade 7 to 9 meet in their Goal Group. Students are assigned to a mentor teacher in a multi graded classroom to work on Goal Setting.
What is the purpose of Goal Setting?
To assist students to develop student like behaviours focusing on such areas as:
- Time Management
- Developing Individual Learning Skills - Self Advocating
- Perserverence
- Organization
- Study Skills/Test Taking Skills
What are SMART Goals?
Students develop, monitor and reflect on their goals using the SMART Goal process. The SMART acronym stands for:
SPECIFIC:
Goals are SPECIFIC when they are clear, not vague, and focused on one thing,
MEASUREABLE:
Goals are MEASUREABLE when they have number values or measurements associated with their completion.
ATTAINABLE:
Goals are ATTAINABLE when they can be realistically accomplished. Don't set a goal that you can't likely meet!
RELEVANT:
Goals are RELEVANT when they are personally meaningful and important in the long term.
TIME-BOUND:
Goals are TIME-Bound when they set a specific deadline for completion.
