Grade 9 Student Attending the P.A.R.T.Y. Program
The P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevention of Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) Program is an injury prevention program aimed to educate grade 9 students. The students will be attending P.A.R.T.Y. all day on April 17th, 2018.
We help students understand smart choices and the consequences of poor decision making regarding dangerous behaviors such as drinking and driving, non-compliance with seat belt legislation and other recreational activities in the mountains. We have been offering the P.A.R.T.Y. Program to the grade 9 students for over 10 years. It has sent a powerful and profound message to all participants. This is an important program because it is reality-based education that is thought-provoking, graphic and unforgettable. Students who have attended the P.A.R.T.Y. Program have reported that they are more likely to consider the consequences of their decisions, have shown greater use of seat belts and greater attention to the relationship between alcohol and risk-related behaviors.
During the P.A.R.T.Y. Program the students will be touring the emergency room and will be shown graphic material which demonstrate the aftermath of serious highway collisions in the Bow Valley. Part of the day will be spent outdoors. Actors will be moulaged to represent victims surviving (or not surviving) a traffic collision. A simulated crash scene will be followed by a short visit to the morgue and a discussion with victim services. Students will be asked to pack a bag lunch (see instructions below) and eat that lunch using devices designed to help them understand how difficult eating can become if you are disabled. To finish off the day, students will have the opportunity to speak with some injury survivors and will bring home a “Contract for Life.”
We would like to extend an invitation to you as parents to attend P.A.R.T.Y. with your child and see first-hand what the P.A.R.T.Y. Program is about. If you are interested in attending, notice needs to be given directly to the P.A.R.T.Y Program Coordinator in advance of the event.
The P.A.R.T.Y. Program is offered without cost; however, we operate solely on donations and grants. A donation from your family would be greatly appreciated.
Cheque’s can be sent payable to the “Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation - P.A.R.T. Y. Program.” Cash is also gratefully accepted. Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $10.00. We appreciated all donations, and would like to thank you for your consideration.
